Motihari, Feb. 15: More than 800 students of Anugrah Narayan Singh Intermediate College ransacked college property and demonstrated near Gandhi Chowk, disrupting traffic for several hours today.
The students were up in arms against the college administration, which they allege has been playing with their careers.
Around 850 regular and 400 private students of the three faculties of arts, science and commerce had submitted their examination forms to the Bihar Intermediate Examination Council, Patna.
However, the students came to know on Monday that their applications were not accepted as the college’s affiliation was cancelled last year.
The students blamed the college administration for cheating them and playing with their future. Ankit, one of the student representatives, said: “The management were aware that the college’s affiliation has been cancelled. Even then, in the lust for money and in a deliberate bid to cheat the students, the college allowed us to fill up the forms for the coming intermediate examination.”
The students had taken out a procession on Monday to submit a memorandum to the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Radha Kant. They demanded that the district administration should arrange for their examination and prosecute the principal and other representatives of the college management for playing with their career.
The SDM had assured the students that a magistrate would visit the college on Tuesday to do everything necessary in favour of their careers. Abhay Kumar, another student representative, told The Telegraph that the students lost their cool today when the SDM failed to send a magistrate on time to look into the matter. The agitating students were pacified only when Radha Kant reached the spot. He took a delegation of five students for discussion to find the best possible remedy in the matter.
The magistrate on duty at Gandhi Chowk, Shashi Bhushan Mishra told The Telegraph the students’ cause of protest was genuine. He said the district administration was in talks with the secretary of the college and was pursuing an amicable solution in the interest of the students.
