IIT-Patna

Riding on the positive vibe in the market, spurt in online retail sales and support from seniors, IIT-Patna students have lapped up envious job deals in the 2014-15 placement season.
The institute has so far received 102 placement offers for a batch of 125 students in different trades. The offer letters have come from 35 companies. While e-retail firms offered envious deals, the core firms recruited maximum students.
The Tata Group, comprising Tata Motors, TCS Innovation Lab, TCS IT, TCS Engineering Services and TCS Digital Services and Solutions, have recruited 30 students alone. The Tata Group firms have offered Rs 6.5 lakh per annum to each student.
Not lagging behind is L&T. It has recruited 10 students offering Rs 6 lakh per annum to each.
The online retail firms challenged the recruitment numbers of the core group of companies with mind-boggling packages. Amazon.com, an American e-commerce firm with headquarters in Seattle, has offered jobs to eight students with a whopping package of Rs 28 lakh per annum to each.
The students are happy with the hefty salaries offered and the institute going for cent per cent placement this year. But the sky is the limit for them. Some of them feel the next few months would be crucial because more companies would visit the IIT campus with even bigger pay package.
Venkatesh Chaturvedi, a final-year electrical engineering student who has got an offer from a Tata Group firm, said: 'We have observed that the placement scenario in the institute is better this time than previous years. We are expecting more lucrative offers from the companies yet to come.'
Students and faculty members attributed the superb placement season to several factors. First, the reputation of IIT-Patna. Second, good market scenario. And the boom in e-commerce.
The alumni of seven-year-old IIT-Patna have also given a push to the placement scenario of the institute. Chaturvedi, the budding electrical engineer, said: 'Our alumni are helping in a great way in placements. Many companies have visited the institute following recommendation from them. Several firms came to our campus after their top brass was impressed with the performance of our seniors.'
