Patna, June 17: Anugrah Narayan College, one of the three institutes in the state having a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)-A grade tag, witnessed a huge admission rush today.

Anugrah Narayan, which is a constituent college under Magadh University (MU), has been running many vocational and traditional courses but admission seekers’ first choice are the vocational ones. Many of these courses draw placements from top companies making them the most sought after courses.

Haridwar Singh, the principal of AN College, said: “The college runs a large number of vocational courses including bachelor in business administration (BBA), bachelor in computer applications (BCA), master in business administration (MBA), master in computer applications (MCA), biotechnolgy, water management, environment science and others.”

Singh added: “This year, several top companies have agreed to visit the campus for placements, which include Silicon India, Tata Consultancy Services, ICICI, Wipro, Jaro Education Trust and others.” Moreover, Wipro is also a campus partner of AN College.

The last date for submission of forms is June 30. Singh said for admission in the vocational courses, students have to appear for a written test followed by interview, while for traditional courses, admission is done on the basis of marks scored in matriculation and Intermediate examinations respectively.

Sushil Yadav, who has scored 75 per cent in the Class XII board examination from Central School, Kankerbagh, said: “The vocational courses of AN College are much sought after as many students get placed from their campus every year. Initially, the average salary ranges between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh annually.”

There has also been a mad rush for Intermediate and traditional undergraduate courses. Haridwar also claimed that as Intermediate is not conducted in Patna University, students living in the state capital opt AN College for Intermediate studies in large number after matriculation.

The college authorities claim that this year, the cut-off marks for Intermediate course in science is going to touch 75 per cent while in arts it would be above 65 per cent.

JD Women’s College, another constituent college under MU, too, witnessed a huge rush as the last date for form submission is June 30. There is a huge demand for vocational courses here too, as students while pursuing under graduate courses can simultaneously go for add-on vocational courses.

Dilip Kumar, an official at the college, said: “The biggest advantage of add-on course is that students, who are pursuing their undergraduation courses, can opt for any add-on course, which include diploma in journalism, business English, pest control, art and beauty culture and environmental auditing.” According to B.K. Manglam, the University Grants Commission (UGC) co-ordinator at College of Commerce, there has been a huge demand of vocational courses. The college under MU is a NAAC-accredited-B grade college drawing a large number of students from Rajendranagar and Kankerbagh area.
