Patna, June 8: Young students of the city have taken to the phrase — all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy — quite well.

This summer vacation, they have taken care to ensure their overall personality development and have started to learn new skills. However, now the days of fun are coming to an end, as the city schools are set to open in two weeks.

While till now, they had been prioritising enjoyment over studies, they know it is time to finish pending homework. The students, those who went for a holiday and those who didn’t, are feeling the pressure — the pressure to concentrate on studies. Still, there are a few left for whom spending time on hobbies and entertainment is more important.

Vaibhavi Prerna of Class VIII, Baldwin Academy, has enjoyed her vacations to the fullest and at present, all’s that there is on her mind is studies.

She said: “I did enjoy the vacations and learnt Kathak and western dance forms. In fact, I got more time to practise these, as unlike during school sessions I got to spend around one-and-a-half-hours daily on my practice. But now is the time when I need to concentrate on studies — I do not want my parents or teachers to scold me for not finishing my homework on time. We had been given a few projects and assignments from school and I have to complete them now. The projects on computer science need a lot of concentration. I need to prepare two projects on MS Excel and give them in a CD to the teacher concerned. That will need a lot of concentration.”

Vaibhavi truly has her work cut out for her. Baldwin Academy reopens after vacations on June 27 — eighteen days away.

Kajal Fitkiriwala, a student of Class X of Radiant International School, is aware of the pressure of studies on her. She not only studied for at least two hours daily, apart from her tuitions, she also dropped her plans to learn the art of rangoli.

She said: “Mathematics and English are the two subjects to which I need to pay more attention. I have already completed the projects and assignments but as I am weak in physics I need to spend most of my time on the subject.” Her school reopens on June 21.

While Kajal is slogging away at home, four of her friends have gone for a holiday.

Shreeishita, who has taken CBSE Class X examination from International School, is set for admission in Class XI and is busy concentrating on her studies. She said: “I need to concentrate more on chemistry. I am especially laying stress on chemical reactions and concept of molecules.”

But, like Jack, it’s not just studies for Shreeishita. She is also enjoying her vacations with her elder sister who is home for her vacation. Both of them are busy beating the heat at home with mouth-watering dishes and games.

Sunidhi, a student of Class V of Notre Dame Academy, said: “The vacations are soon to be over and I am now preparing for class tests which would commence from July 4. But I am not compromising on fun. Apart from playing badminton with my sister, I am also having lots of fun dancing at home.”

Her favourite song to dance to these days is Character dheela from Salman Khan’s latest release Ready. Notre Dame reopens on June 22.

For Ishan Kishan, a Class VIII student of Delhi Public School, Patna, cricket is much more important than anything else. He said: “There should be no compromise on cricket. Studies will continue but cricket is more important to me.” His school reopens on June 26.
