Asutosh Kumar, who sat for the third semester statistics and computer science papers at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU), has decided to approach Patna High Court to get his result.

After running from pillar to post since last August, the MCA student exercised his right to information (RTI) and obtained a copy of his answer sheet. The varsity told him his answer sheet had been examined but no marks were left in the relevant column. The examiner indicated in the answer sheet his answers were correct but awarded him no marks. "This is why my results are pending. The varsity is responsible," he said.

He does not know how to apply for re-totalling of marks, as the examiner did not award him any marks. "I approached the vice-chancellor and varsity officials concerned several times and requested them to take up my case and save my career, but all I got was assurances," he said.

Earlier, a varsity official assured to put his matter up before the examination board. "At a examination board meeting on November 20, 2014, my case and that of other examinees, who had obtained their answer sheets through RTI and applied for rectification of marks, was taken up," Ashutosh said.

Human error (by the examiner) came to light and the board asked the examination department to sort out such pending results by taking the help of experts concerned. "After the meeting, a higher official of the examination department assured us our results would be provided soon, but nothing has happened till now," Asutosh said.

Asutosh's is not an isolated case. Because of increasing number of such irregularities, the varsity frequently witnesses violence on the campus. Only on Friday, vice-chancellor Rama Shanker Dubey and pro-vice-chancellor Awadh Kishore Roy and members of the senate had a close shave when students attacked the senate hall and hurled chairs during a TMBU senate meet.

"The students were protesting against the failure of the varsity to publish results on time or without faults, which subsequently hampers the future of students," said Roshan Kumar, a student leader from ABVP. Vice-chancellor Dubey said students like Roshan could meet the pro-vice-chancellor to get the problem solved.

He said the varsity always tries to solve problems faced by students.
