A primary health centre at Raxaul in East Champaran wears a deserted look on Tuesday. Doctors, observing the daylong boycott called by Bihar Health Services Association, did not turn up at the outpatient department of government facilities in the districts, leaving patients in the lurch. The strike was called in protest against delay in action against a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) who allegedly beat up a doctor, Arvind Kumar, at Hajipur Sadar Hospital in Vaishali district on February 10. While the Indian Medical Association's state chapter withdrew its strike call on Monday night, BHSA went ahead with the strike. BHSA general secretary Ranjit Kumar said: "The police department has transferred the officer concerned to the headquarters but this action is not sufficient in the case."
