State police to honour players

Patna, Feb. 3: Bihar police would honour nine players of different states and central paramilitary forces attending the 60th All India Police Games, 2011 at Mithilesh Stadium for their contribution to promotion of sports.

Deputy inspector-general of police (human rights) Raveendran Sankaran, also the organising secretary of the mega sports event, said the nine players include four Arjuna awardees. The players to be felicitated are Cyril C. Valloor, Ramesh Kumar, Sunder Singh, Rajendra Singh Mor (all Arjuna awardees), Roy Joseph, Devendra Singh, Sujeet Singh and Pratish Pandey. They all have participated in different national and international championships and won medals.

Valloor, a deputy commandant in the Kerala Armed Police Force, was the captain of the volleyball team that participated in the Asian Games held in Seoul in 1996. The Indian team had bagged bronze in the championship. Valloor is at present the manager of the volleyball team of the Kerala police.

Valloor, who has come to Bihar for the first time, told The Telegraph that he was satisfied with the arrangements made by the Bihar police for the players, captains and team managers.

On the performance of the Bihar police volleyball team, Valloor said: “It will take time to meet the expectations of the people.”
