State champion…

In squash is 17-year-old Shweta Rani. She has, so far, participated in over a dozen state-level and national tournaments. Shweta became the state champion in 2010 at a tournament organised by the Bihar Squash Racket Association.

Interest in game…

Came naturally to Shweta, who started training five years ago. She was then studying in Class VII at St Xavier’s School.

Pace and space…

Were the reasons Shweta decided to learn the game. Not only was the squash scene less crowded, the competition was also to her liking.

Dream game…

Shweta had with her idol, international squash champ Dipika Pallikal, at a 2008 tournament in Chennai.

Clash to remember…

Was the quarter-final match between Shweta and Dipika in the of U-19 category at the Junior National Squash Championship at Chennai. The champ gave tips to Shweta which have helped her improve her game.

Able guide…

Shweta has found in her coach, Anil Lal, who is associated with the Bihar Squash Racket Association.

Reigning moment…

For Shweta was the final match of the 2010 state-level squash championship at Bankipore Club. She was adjudged champion in three categories.

Hi-tech ambition…

Shweta has. She plans to either become a mechanical engineer or an electrical engineer.
