Is our basketball champ Sweta Shree. Over the past four years, the 18-year-old has been a member of many winning tournaments. She has also played in several regional-level tournaments.
Her moves…
In the game started to develop at her former school, Bishop Westcott Girls’ School in Ranchi. There, trained by school coach N. Tigga, Sweta became the basketball team captain in 2009. She studied at Bishop Westcott Girls’ School from 2006-2010.
Source of inspiration…
For Sweta are her seniors, including Akansha Sinha, at Bishop Westcott Girls’ School. Akansha was a former basketball captain at the Ranchi school and Sweta played under her in 2009. Constant guidance from parents Narendra Prasad and Meena Devi and sports teacher Tigga has also seen her through in her journey.
Her high points…
Include ensuring her team’s victory at an intra-school tourney in 2010. She was also part of the teams that bagged second position at regional-level tournaments in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad in 2009 and 2010.
That’s not all…
When it comes to Sweta’s skills. When she was in Class IX, Sweta won the first position in kumite, a form of karate. In another form, kata, Sweta secured the second position. These were inter-school-level tournaments.
Sweta’s accolades…
Include bagging the second prize in shot put in an inter-school sports event in 2010. In Class V, when she was in Don Bosco Academy, Patna, she won the second prize in a painting competition.
Bright future…
Sweta is also working towards. She is thinking of becoming a lawyer and pursuing chartered accountancy. She also plans to bring laurels for India in basketball.
