All is not well at Jai Prakash University, as the administration and the finance officer of the varsity have levelled charges against each other.

The JP University's finance officer, Raj Kishore Sinha, had lodged an FIR against some temporary employees of the university on October 16. He has now demanded security, claiming he fears for his life. He has also alleged that university officials were putting undue pressure on him to sign certain documents.

University registrar R.B. Bablu, however, denied the charges and claimed that Sinha had a tainted past.

Bablu went on to claim that prior to his present posting, Sinha had been working with BN Mandal University, Madhepura, from where the varsity had received a letter that Sinha had withdrawn Rs 28 lakh illegally from the salary account of the BN Mandal University.

"As we have started the process of recovering money from the finance officer, he is coming up with such baseless charges," added the registrar.

Sinha denied the charges levelled against him by the registrar and claimed BN Mandal University owed him money. Sinha said he was told to sign some blank cheques by the offices of the JP University vice-chancellor and registrar, and when he refused, his salary was stopped and false charges were levelled against him.

He went on to add that a case had been filed in the Patna High Court, following which the court had directed BN Mandal University to clear his dues. "The same has not been done till now," Sinha added.

Bablu also accused the finance officer of violating university rules and alleged that the latter abstains from work without informing the officials concerned. The registrar claimed because of Sinha's laxity, salary payment of the employees of affiliated colleges had been delayed and the office of the chancellor had been informed about the same.

Police sources said the FIR lodged by the finance officer was being looked into and any decision to provide him security would be taken only after a detailed investigation into the case.
