Patna, Dec. 13: Four youths were fined for overspeeding, thanks to the new arsenal in the cops’ armoury — the speed gun radar.
The four were speeding down Bailey Road. The gun spotted them. Three were penalised. The other was at the traffic police station till the filing of this report.
On Monday, the police had said they would start using the speed gun on the stretch of Bailey Road between Hartali Mor and Dumrao Chowk.
The erring youths have been identified as Manoj Kumar, a resident of Gaighat, Amit Saxena, a resident of Shastri Nagar, Anil Kumar, a resident of Danapur, and Julender Kumar, a resident of Bihta.
S.A. Hasmi, the traffic police station inspector, told The Telegraph: “We caught hold of four persons from Lalit Bhavan at the Bailey Road area. The traffic police collected a fine of Rs 6,500 from them. Manoj paid a fine of Rs 3,200 for driving his bike at high speed and on other charges.”
“The speed gun has a screen and once pointed towards a vehicle, the speed as well as the registration number of the bike or car flashes on the screen automatically. Police personnel have been stationed at several points along the road and information is sent through the wireless to nab them,” sergeant major (traffic) Suresh Prasad told The Telegraph.
Soon, the breath analysers would also be used to curb drunk driving.
“The police will be using them near alcohol shops,” the officer said.
