Gaya, Dec. 6: The Union government has initiated the process to set up a super speciality centre at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH).
Four days back state health department deputy secretary Anil Kumar sent a letter to ANMMCH principal Sushil Prasad Mahto seeking details of the equipment available in different departments.
The principal said: "Today, we have collected the information from the departments. A report with details about the availability of equipment will be sent to the deputy secretary by tomorrow. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna director has been made the coordinator. He will review the report sent from the medical college and also visit the college for a detailed assessment."
The proposal to set up the super speciality centre under Prime Minister Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) was initiated in 2014 under which 13 cities were selected.
In the beginning, there was a plan to set up a super speciality centre only in Patna and Bhagalpur in Bihar. Later, Gaya was added, as it is near Grand Trunk Road and two national highways - NH-2 and NH-83. Apart from this, Gaya is also an international tourist place and people from across the country and abroad visit the city to perform pinddaan rituals.
Each super speciality centre will be built at a cost of Rs 200 crore out of which the state has to spend Rs 80 crore.
After principals of the three medical colleges - Gaya, Patna and Bhagalpur - submit the reports, a detailed assessment will be made on what more have to be added so that patients get maximum facilities.
Thereafter, a detailed project report will be prepared. There is a proposal to purchase magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT scan, linear accelerator, and other modern equipment. The centre will have upgraded departments like oncology, nephrology, endocrinology, cardiology, cardio thoracic and vascular surgery, neurology, paediatric surgery, ear-nose-throat, orthopaedic, burn and plastic surgery.
The ANMMCH does not have neurology department. The cases of neurology are referred to Patna.
