Patna, April 24: Of the three special courts constituted at Patna, Gaya and Muzaffarpur in January this year to clear pending electricity-related cases, two have started functioning while the Muzaffarpur court is yet to start operations.
About 682 cases have been transferred to the special court at Patna meant to deal with cases in the Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (Pesu) area and judge Kamal Deo Singh has already disposed of nine cases. Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) has received Rs 7.05 lakh from these cases.
“Around 122 cases have already been transferred to Gaya special court constituted for Magadh area headed by judge Raj Kishore Singh, whereas the court at Muzaffarpur would start shortly,” BSEB spokesman H.R. Pandey said.
To clear the backlog of cases pertaining to electricity, the government has constituted these courts to deal with electricity theft cases according to Indian Electricity Act, 2003. “There are provisions in the act to transfer the cases to these courts and accordingly, the cases are being transferred,” added Pandey.
