Central University of South Bihar's Centre for Mass Communication and Media organised the second season of its annual documentary film screening "Srijan" on Thursday, May 18.
The university's Patna campus held the daylong screening to a great response. Registrar Gayathri V. Patil chaired the event with environmentalist Ashok Ghosh as the co-chair.
Mohammad Mudassir Alam, the central university's public relations officer, said four documentary films on different subjects of socio-cultural importance were screened at the event.
The fourth-semester students of the mass communication and media department had made the documentaries - Badla Bihar Badli Zindagi, E-Waste: Garbage to Gold, Chatore and Mujraa - under the guidance of faculty member Ravi Suryavanshi.
Badla Bihar Badli Zindagi highlighted the positive impact prohibition has had on the lives of people in the state, while E-Waste: Garbage to Gold emphasised on different aspects of electronic waste management and its effect on the environment.
Chatore underlined Bihar's folk food, and Mujraa showed the plight of artistes and the dying art form in society.
Registrar Patil appreciated the efforts of the students and facilitators of the media department in her presidential address. "These activities help in the overall development of students. It is a matter of great pleasure that our students are learning to work professionally."
Zeeshan Yasir, a mass communication student, also said: "The documentary screening was very interesting and a challenging task as we chose the topics, directed and produced the documentaries ourselves."
Last day
Tuesday was the last day for the 2015-17 BEd and MEd students of St Xavier's College of Education.
The students were full of mixed emotions, as they were happy to complete two years in training but also sad to leave the institution. "These two years passed by so fast we didn't even realise," said MEd student Pinki Nisha. "Though there was pressure to do good in studies, it was never a tough task as the teachers and the college administration was very supportive."
The prospective teachers presented a cultural programme that began with a prayer service. Pinki and BEd student Nikita Kevin Natal shared their experience at the institution, while dance and farewell songs remained the attractions of the day.
Aakansha and Neha presented the year's activities in a short film Golden Memories.
"All of you came to this institution with dreams, now it's time for you to fulfil the dreams of the youth of the nation," Father Joseph Maripuram SJ, rector of the college, told the students. "You have been blessings to this institution, give your best to the field of developing the nation and nurture the tender hearts. Take the spirit of the college everywhere you go and shine like the lamp giving light to all."
Principal Father Thomas Perumalil SJ called the students' attention to be ready to deliver their best.
Farewell
Third-year students of College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, organised a farewell programme for their seniors last Thursday.
Mimicry acts, songs and dances were performed in the cultural programme, as well as a singing competition among the outgoing students.
At the end of the programme, the senior students shared their experiences of college life with their juniors.
"Fine arts can bring about changes in society," said Mukesh Kumar, one of the outgoing students. "Artwork can bring revolution as an artist's work is mightier than a sword."
Tech fest
The annual technical cultural fest of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Bihta, concluded on Friday after three days of live performance, quiz, debates, and other events.
The last day was kept for Nakash Aziz, the Jabra singer.
Even though the fest had an array of events, Aziz's performance was the highlight. Students and faculty members danced as the singer performed his popular tracks such as Saree ke fall Sa and Selfie le le re.
Revenue and land reforms minister Madan Mohan Jha was the chief guest on the last day of the technical cultural fest.
Encouraging the students, he said: "In Bihar, there are several good technical institutions which are imparting students quality education. This has successfully stopped students' migration to other states for higher studies."
