Patna, Jan. 3: Lakshya, a city-based non-government organisation, would soon broadcast the second season of its programme on human trafficking on All India Radio, Patna.

Christened Jaal, the programme received huge response from listeners in its first run. People even reported a few cases of human trafficking to Lakshya on its helpline number.

The 40-episode series, first aired between April 2 and December 30 last year, is part of a Geneva Global project of which Lakshya is a partner organisation. Listeners reported around 35 cases of human trafficking on the Lakshya helpline number broadcast on the programme.

“We would broadcast the programme again in February. We got to know about many cases of human trafficking from our listeners. We want to generate more awareness on the issue. This time, we plan to intervene in cases of human trafficking. If a listener reports any case, we will ensure that the police inquire into it and accordingly take action,” said Chitralee Bhattacharyya, the chairperson of Lakshya. “The programme had a great impact on our listeners because I used to be flooded with enquiries,” she added.

Talking about the show’s format, Manoj Kumar, the programme director and also the director of Lakshya, said: “We are making no change in the programme format. In the first segment, a play will be broadcast based on real stories of human trafficking. In the next, experts will deliver a lecture on the subject. Last time, ministers, advocates and Bihar State Child Labour Commission chairperson Ramdeo Prasad took part in that segment. This season, we plan to invite more ministers.”

Bhattacharyya added: “Our aim is to bring cases of human trafficking to the forefront to help people dodge such rackets. We would also tell them about the legal aspects like how the victim or their families can lodge a complaint against human trafficking.”
