Patna: A special investigation team (SIT) has been set up to crack the case related to the murder of Ramjanam Yadav, husband of mukhiya Nikki Devi, in a running train on Sunday evening.

The SIT comprising additional superintendent of police Amritendra Shekhar Thakur and deputy superintendent of police Bhagwan Prasad Gupta conducted raids at different criminal hideouts to nab the culprits.

Patna superintendent of rail police (SRP) Jitendra Mishra said a meeting of station house officers was held in the capital to chalk out the strategy to solve the case at the earliest. "Technical devices are being used to nab the offenders," he told The Telegraph.

Asked about the involvement of Independent MLA from Mokama Assembly constituency Anant Singh, the SRP said action would be taken against any accused on the basis of evidence.

"We are investigating the case with an open mind," he added.

He didn't rule out the questioning of the MLA, who is already facing charges of murder and kidnapping. "He might be arrested if found involved in the incident," the SRP said.

The deceased's wife Nikki, the mukhiya of Lemuabad panchayat under Barh sub-division in Patna rural, had accused Anant and his two associates - Karamveer Yadav and Lallu Yadav - of hatching the conspiracy to eliminate her husband. Gangster Ranvir Yadav has been made named main accused in the case.

Ramjanam was attacked near Athmalgola railway station while travelling on the Patliputra Express on Sunday. The assailants fired at him from close range and fled the spot.

Police sources said professional shooters were hired to eliminate Ramjanam, who, they said, was not on good terms with Mokama MLA Anant Singh. Police sources said Ramjanam had criminal antecedents.

In Ranchi, RJD chief Lalu Prasad assailed the Nitish Kumar government for its failure to contain crime. Lalu said " maha jungle raj" was prevailing in Bihar.
