Bhagalpur: Bhagalpur police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) under a department superintendent-rank official to investigate the murder of a 35-year-old contractor, Amarjit Roy, in the heart of the city on Thursday evening .
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bhagalpur, Manoj Kumar said an SIT with seven SI-rank officers under the leadership of department superintendent of police (DSP-city), S. Akthar, has been constituted to crack the case. He added that four persons have been detained on the basis of suspicion and interrogation is going on.
"Three persons among the four also figure in the FIR as named accused. The FIR has been registered by Anil Roy, a hardware shopowner and father of the deceased," Manoj said. He, along with deputy inspector-general of police, Bhagalpur range, Vikash Vaibhav, on Friday morning had to face a tough time to release the body for autopsy from the hands of the angry family members.
On Thursday night senior cops, including inspector-general of police (IG), Bhagalpur zone, Sushil M. Singh Khopde, also faced the same situation when the unruly mob forcefully took away the body from JLNMC hospital and kept it at the house of the deceased.
The incident occurred around 9pm on Thursday near the head post office, near the house of the deceased. "Amarjit was returning from the market with a friend on a motorcycle after placing orders to celebrate the upcoming birthday of his 3-year-old daughter. He dropped his friend near a pan shop in front of the post office. When he proceeded he was shot from a close range. He received three bullets on his chest," he said.
