The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) question paper leak case got Anand Brar on transit remand late on Tuesday and he is likely to be brought to the city on Thursday.

A day after Gurgaon-based Brar - involved in the pre- printing production job of the question papers - was arrested from Delhi, the SIT on Tuesday began carrying out searches at his offices and residential premises in Delhi and other places.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj, who is also heading the SIT, confirmed the police operation. The SSP, however, refused to share details of the search operation carried out in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. "The searches are on. It would not be prudent to make any comment at this juncture," he told The Telegraph.

Brar could not be brought to Patna on Tuesday as the court allowed his transit remand very late in the night. The SIT got three days transmit remand to produce Anant in a Patna court. When asked about the delay in getting Brar on remand, the SSP said he could not be taken on remand on Tuesday owing to procedural delays.

Brar, better known as Anant Preet Brar, was assigned the evaluation of the clerical grade examination sheets conducted by the BSSC.

An investigating officer said Brar was the one who had provided solved answers to every question. "Given that Brar was the evaluator of the clerical examination, he used to set questions for the examinees," the sleuth said.

The investigating officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Brar, in connivance with the arrested former BSSC chairman Sudhir Kumar, used to leak question papers in advance and later the solved answers.

Brar's confession may help join the dots, he said.

Brar was also known to have admitted to his close ties with suspended BSSC secretary Parmeshwar Ram.

Avinash Kumar, a data entry operator with the BSSC, was a link between the two, the investigating officer quoted Brar as saying.
