Member of Parliament Shatrughan Sinha has recovered from his breathing problems and could be discharged from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, on Saturday, his wife said.

“He is stable and doctors have advised him to take rest for another day, after which he will be released. The doctors looking after him assured us that there is no need to worry,” the veteran actor’s wife, Poonam Sinha, told The Telegraph over the phone from Mumbai on Friday.

The actor-turned-politician was hospitalised on July 2 after he complained of breathing problem.

“A construction work was going on at our Juhu bungalow (Ramayan), since 2008. The 2007 Mumbai floods had damaged it. When we moved to the bungalow two weeks ago, the smell of the paint was still there. He (Shatrughan) is allergic to paint smell and complained of breathing trouble,” said Poonam.

“As soon as he complained about the problem, we took him to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and he has been under the observation of doctors ever since. Initially, we were a bit worried but gradually doctors assured us that there was nothing serious and he just needed to be in hospital for a few more days,” she said.

Sources said Shatrughan’s family was staying at Lokhandwala when the repair work was going on in his bungalow. His sons Luv and Kush, along with his Dabangg daughter Sonakshi Sinha, stay in the bungalow.

On why he was kept in the hospital for almost two weeks, Poonam said: “The reason behind keeping him in the hospital was the huge rush of his fans, who keep flocking at the hospital to extend their best wishes. Then, the doctor decided to shift him to the ICU, to avoid the rush, which was affecting his health. Now, the doctors have told me that by tomorrow (Saturday) he will be discharged.”

Even international wrestler and actor Dara Singh, who passed away on July 12, was admitted to same hospital, so whoever was going to see him also wanted to meet him, she said.

Now, only his children and wife are allowed to meet Shatrughan. “My children visit the hospital to inquire about his health. It is because of his fans’ blessings that he has recovered so soon. Even a few days earlier, he was only having fruit juice, but now he is on a normal diet,” Poonam said.

Shatrughan’s secretary Pawan Kumar said the actor was scheduled to visit Patna on July 4 and 12 to take part in a few functions but could not make it.
