The axe is likely to fall on Buxar superintendent of police Upendra Sharma following a suicide committed by a sub-inspector posted in Rajpur of the district on Saturday.
Navin Chandra Jha, posted as SP of Bhojpur, is holding additional charge of Buxar as Sharma is in Hyderabad in connection with a training. He left Buxar on Friday for taking part in the training.
Sushil Kumar Yadav, posted as station house officer (SHO) of Rajpur in Buxar, had committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on the police station premises allegedly after being harassed by Sharma, the SP. The victim's relatives had complained to the senior police officers against Sharma.
Deputy inspector-general (Shahabad range) Mohammed Rahman said: "I inquired about the allegations against the SP and submitted the report to the state police headquarters on Sunday. The copy of the report has also been sent to the inspector-general (Patna zone)."?
A source in the police headquarters said the DIG concerned was assigned to probe the allegations levelled against Sharma, a 2009-batch IPS officer, who allegedly used unparliamentary language and rebuked Yadav at the monthly crime meeting on Wednesday for not accomplishing his task.
Sharma denied the allegations and said he never scolded the SHO. "It was a routine meeting and the SHOs are supposed to come to the meeting with up-to-date records. But that didn't mean I put pressure on him," he said, adding that he was ready to face inquiry.
