BJP national president Amit Shah has called the Bihar BJP's core committee members for a meeting in Delhi on September 14.

The state core committee comprises state unit president Nityanand Rai, organisational general-secretary Nagendra Nath, national vice-president Renu Devi and senior leaders such as Sushil Kumar Modi, Nand Kishore Yadav, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Radha Mohan Singh, C.P. Thakur, Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Giriraj Singh.

"The national president will be interacting with senior leaders in such a meeting for the first time after formation of the NDA government in Bihar," said a BJP insider.

Shah is likely to discuss the functioning of the Bihar government and also brief the senior leaders from the state about the finer points of the alliance, the BJP insider said.

The BJP chief is also expected to discuss issues related to the party's organisational functioning ahead of his proposed visit to Bihar in the first week of November.

Shah had last visited Bihar in January this year.

"Amit ji has a different style of functioning and he believes in keeping the party grass-root organisation structure in election mode well ahead of any election," said a member of the Bihar BJP core committee. "As the next general election is due almost two years from now, he would take feedback on the steps needed for keeping the party cadre proactive on a sustained basis."

Shah is likely to come for three days to Bihar in November. Apart from meeting party functionaries he is expected to visit a polling booth to monitor the functioning of the booth committee, which the BJP considers the backbone of the organisational structure.

The state unit of the BJP has such committees at about 70 per cent of the total 62,780 polling booths in Bihar. The party aims to have such committees in place in all the polling booths.

To keep tabs on the functioning of the these committees, the BJP has also launched a special drive to set up panchayat-level units, to be called Shakti Kendras.

"Shah Sir is very meticulous in assessing the performance of the state units and he would certainly take feedback about the functioning of booth committees and Shakti Kendras when he sits with the core committee members to discuss issues related to Bihar," a BJP functionary said.
