New Delhi, Dec. 22: A man who used to fetch water for officials of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group ran out of the 2G special court and was caught after a hot pursuit after a former aide to A. Raja said he was being threatened and pointed to the scooting visitor.
The incident occurred as proceedings were going on in the court of special CBI judge O.P. Saini and the counsel for Raja was cross-examining Aseervartham Achary, the erstwhile aide to the former telecom minister.
Achary told the judge that he wants to make a submission after Raja’s counsel Sushil Kumar asked him why had he gone to the CBI office on September 5, 2011.
“I want to submit something as my life depends on it and the life of my wife and four-year-old daughter depends on it. I am in danger.... The person who tried to kill me is just here in the courtroom. He was sitting along with R.K. Chandolia (an accused and Raja’s former private secretary) in the case since morning,” he said.
Achary then pointed towards the courtroom door and told the judge that the man, later identified as Jai Prakash who used to work as a peon with Reliance Power in Noida, had run out of the court.
A CBI inspector present in the courtroom ran after Jai Prakash, who was later apprehended by police personnel present on the court premises and produced before the judge.
By then the judge had directed the Delhi police commissioner to take necessary action.
Achary and his personal security officer (PSO) identified Jai Prakash as the same person who had come to his house on August 20 evening to meet him on the pretext of being a relative.
On being questioned by the judge, Jai Prakash said he did not know Achary or his PSO and that he used to come to the court to fetch water and food for Reliance ADAG officials Gautam Doshi and Surendra Pipara, both facing trial in the 2G case.
The judge asked Pipara whether Jai Prakash “was his man”.
“He just gives us water,” Pipara said.
The judge asked Jai Prakash why had he gone to Achary’s residence in Safdarjung Enclave.
“I do not know Safdarjung Enclave. I have been in the court since two to three months. I do not know them (Achary and his PSO),” Jai Prakash said after which the judge asked the police to question him.
Later in the evening, the police said no case had been registered against Jai Prakash as it appeared he was not involved in threatening Achary. Jai Prakash was let off.
