Patna, March 11: Several schools in the city have started the process of admitting underprivileged children.
Twenty-five per cent of the seats across schools have been reserved for underprivileged children, according to the Right to Education (RTE) provisions. Schools have to go for a random selection method if the number of applicants is more than the number of seats.
District Magistrate (DM) Sanjay Kumar is to hold a review meeting on March 27 to see if the schools have adhered to the norms under the RTE. The schools have been asked to come out with the list of the underprivileged children they have admitted.
Some schools have to pre-pone the dates as per the instructions of the DM regarding the review meeting. The DM has asked all schools to complete the admission procedure by March 22.
Few schools have declared the dates for random selection of the underprivileged children. On the other hand, the minority schools are still waiting for clear instructions from the state government. They have also filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the implementation of the Right to Education Act.
