Patna, Feb. 7: Sir Ganesh Dutta Seva Samaj has deci- ded to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati as Kisan Sammelan on March 2.
Addressing a news conference, members of the samaj said it has decided to hold the function at Shri Krishna Memorial Hall in which large numbers of farmers and academicians would take part.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the main function, which would also be attended by deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and other cabinet colleagues.
JD (U) MLA from Kanti Assembly segment Ajit Kumar, who is also a member of Sir Ganesh Dutta Seva Samaj, said: “On this occasion, the samaj has decided to felicitate farmers, academicians and also journa- lists who have contributed for the emancipation of the society.”
Kumar also said for making the event successful, the organising committee at the district-level is being formed in all 38 districts of the state.
Farmers and academicians from each district would gather at the function.
Kumar added: “Saraswati was a fascinating personality and has immense social significance in farmers’ movement in India.”
Although Swamiji was born in Uttar Pradesh, his social and political activities centred mostly in Bihar initially before gradually spreading to the rest of India with the formation of All India Kisan Sabha.
Kumar said: “The Kisan Sabha movement started in Bihar under the leadership of Swami Sahajanand in 1929 to mobilise grievances of peasant against zamindari attacks on their occu- pancy rights, sparking the farmers’ movement in India.”
The samaj members also said the event is non-political and people from all walks of society who are deeply influenced by the teachings of Swamiji are going to take part in the function.
