Gaya, July 30: Security has been beefed up in and around Gandhi Maidan here in the wake of the Prime Minister's visit on August 9.
Apart from a special protection group (SPG) and national security guard (NSG) sleuths, armed police personnel from the district would be deployed in Gandhi Maidan. The SPG and the NSG sleuths are likely to reach Gaya by August 1.
Three sub-inspectors, 15 jawans and an equal number of armed homeguardshave already been deployed at Gandhi Maidan on Wednesday. The security personnel are keeping a close, round-the-clock watch on everyone on the premises.
Indian police service (IPS) officer Shalin has been entrusted to look after the security of the venue.
Shalin, who is the Patna central range deputy inspector general (DIG) of police at present, had served in the Prime Minister's security team from 2007 to 2014.
The police are preparing a map of Gandhi Maidan, which would be sent to the Prime Minister's office and a copy of the same would also be given to the SPG and the NSG .
The BJP district unit media in-charge, Yogesh Kumar, said there would be two daises at the venue. On one, the prime minister, national leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parties like Ramvilas Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Upendra Kushwaha and other senior BJP leaders would be present. On the other, state level leaders, MPs and the MLAs would be seated.
Announcements would be made on the roads of all the ten Assembly constituencies of the district on August 7 and 8 to ensure maximum footfall during the PM's visit. Senior leaders of the state like Sushil Kumar Modi, Nand Kishore Yadav and others will lead the announcement teams. Some other state level leaders of the party will be camping in Gaya from August 1 onwards, to monitor the preparations.
Proper sanitation and drinking water and sanitation facilities would be made available for the visitors. "Drinking water facilities would be available at different places of the venue and all the existing water kiosks in the town would be made functional," said Yogesh.
