Police and district administration have drawn a plan to ensure a safe New Year for revellers.

The authorities concerned would deploy adequate number of police personnel at all the important points of the city so that party spoilers could be nabbed easily. There would be night patrolling to keep an eye on “hooligans”.

Acting district magistrate Seema Tripathi said: “We want the people to celebrate New Year cheerfully. The district administration is very strict as far law and order is concerned. All hotels, restaurants, clubs and parks will get adequate force. We would also depute magistrates at strategic points.”

She added: “The district administration and police will make elaborate security arrangements. Mischievous elements will face a tough time if they try to create nuisance. If they think they can do whatever they want, we will make sure they face the music.”

Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said: “A lot of people visit the diaras for picnic to celebrate New Year. So, we have decided to put up a temporary police station there. It would be functional on December 31 and January 1, 2014. Senior police officers would be deployed there with adequate number of vehicles and boats to handle emergencies.”
