Nawada-based jeweller Dhananjay Verma and midday meal scheme in-charge Amarjeet Kumar were released by their abductors near Gaya railway station early on Friday morning.
The duo were kidnapped from Bhadhokhara village under the jurisdiction of Nawada Mufassil police station at gunpoint while returning home on a motorbike on October 15 this year.
Nawada superintendent of police Parvez Akhtar said the men had reached their homes safely. “The abductors freed them from captivity following intensive raids and mounting police pressure,” he added.
The SP said a sports utility vehicle, which was used in abducting the men, was recovered on Friday from one of the gang’s hideouts. The vehicle was earlier stolen from the district, he added.
Akhtar denied the report that ransom was paid to the abductors for the release of the victims.
“The relatives of both men have denied to have paid any ransom to the abductors,” the SP said.
He said a special police team was assigned the task to rescue the victims at the earliest.
“We had obtained detailed call records of their cellphones and traced their locations. Apprehending trouble, the abductors freed the victims and escaped,” he added.
The police claimed that the role of around a dozen members of the gang in the abduction was under the scanner of the special police team. However, none of them could be arrested in the case.
