Patna: Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) has been unable to gather any video footage of the alleged ragging episode involving MBBS students of the college on July 3 and July 4.

Sources said there were no closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) in the new boys' hostel of the IGIMS where the ragging occurred.

"We have decided to install CCTV cameras at the new boys' hostel so that we don't have to face difficulty in gathering evidence against the perpetrators if a similar incident occurs in the future," said college principal Ranjit Guha.

He said the other hostels of the college, including Dhanvantari, have CCTVs.

"The Medical Council of India (MCI) has sent us a list of guidelines on what precautions have to be taken to curb ragging on campus, along with details of the punishment for students at fault. The guilty students are likely to be subjected to which particular punishment have been mentioned in the MCI mail. We would spread the word on this among the students," added Guha.

The Patna Medical College, too, have not installed CCTV cameras at its hostels. The college administration, however, said it would take various precautionary measures, including installation of CCTV cameras at its hostels, to ensure no ragging takes place.

"On Thursday, the college administration issued instructions to send letters to parents of the senior MBBS students to de-motivate their children from indulging in ragging activities. We would also put up anti-ragging signage at canteens, common rooms, library, entry points among other places," said PMC principal Ajit Kumar Verma.

He said a decision to install CCTV cameras at the hostel has been taken on Thursday.

"We are not going to install CCTVs in postgraduate hostels because they are already doctors and they don't take interest in such things," he said.
