Muzaffarpur: The authorities have prepared a Rs 950-crore plan, which includes widening roads and building flyovers, to battle traffic congestion in this district headquarters town.

On August 25, district magistrate (DM) Mohammad Sohail held a series of meetings with special superintendent of police (SSP) Harprit Kaur and authorities of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the road construction department, and the municipal corporation.

The technical team of the administration prepared a detailed plan, including widening of roads and renovation of dilapidated roads passing through the outskirts.

The DM said the technical team of the road construction department studied the reason behind traffic congestion and came up with a plan of constructing the flyovers and one rail over-bridge.

He said a plan worth Rs 950 crore has been sent to the state government for approval.

The five flyovers will include one from Mithanpura to Aghoriya Chowk, one from Bhagwanpur to Ramdayalu, another from Zenith Petrol station to Aghoriya Bazar Chowk and another from Motijheel to Sikandarpur Chowk.

The rail bridge will be built at Gobarsahi railway crossing on the Muzaffarpur-Motihari section.

The district authorities have also outlined a plan to beautify the roundabouts and make the highways free from illegal parking of heavy vehicles.

"There have been complaints of illegal parking of heavy vehicles along national highways passing through the outskirts and necessary directives are being given to clear it," said special superintendent of police Kaur.

The corporation's commissioner has been asked to direct vendors not to encroach on roadside space.

"The administration will soon launch a crackdown against illegal encroachments on roads," the SSP added.
