T2 Finds Out What’s Making Youngsters In Patna Go Gaga Over Classic Bikes SHAMBHAVI SINGH Published 29.09.12, 12:00 AM

Some like its vrooming sound, some like it’s heavy metallic body, while some just want to look cool by riding past girls and making them swoon. Well, no prizes for guessing as we are talking about the Bullet bike craze in town.

The rage of the Bullet has suddenly created an uproar in the market and the outlets are confused regarding rising sale graphs of Bullets across the city.

The hotness quotient of these bikes has gone up by several notches after the Bollywood bigwigs sported them in a few recent flicks. From Ajay ‘stunt’ Devgn in Singham, Aamir, Akshaye and Saif hitting the roads of Goa in Dil Chahta Hai, cool and confident Katrina Kaif in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara all have ridden the classic Royal Enfield, which has become synonymous with the Bullet bikes.

“After the stunning performances of Salman, Ajay Devgn and Katrina riding bikes in films the demand of Royal Enfield has gradually increased across the city,” said Avinash, owner of the lone outlet of Royal Enfield in Patna. Since youths these days follow the trends of Bollywood, the demand is rocketing, he added.

From the time promos of Shah Rukh Khan with Anushka Sharma riding pillion on the Royal Enfield in the latest Yash Raj flick Jab Tak Hai Jaan went on air, 253 Royal Enfield orders have been placed.

Interestingly, this year, the USP of the Royal Enfield is Shah Rukh Khan.

“In 2011, we sold around 343 Royal Enfields in the city, but this year, till now we have already crossed the 281 figure. The demand in the city is far more than the supply,” said Avinash.

He added that though the company had remodelled some of the bikes, but comfort, power and mileage is still the same.

Although, the Bullet bike has been around for a long time, the interest in it has suddenly gone up. So young Patnaites are all set to push the button, grip the handlebars tight, kick-start the gear and ride on.

Each person using Bullet has his own story to tell. Here are a few:

Bikers in Patna swear by the Bullet bikes

“Since childhood, I have been fascinated with bikes. I used to go gaga over the ad ‘Bullet chale to duniya raasta de’. From then on I was waiting for the right time to get one for myself. Now that these bikes are being sported by Bollywood actors, I thought even I should have my own,” said Sahil, who recently bought a brand new Royal Enfield. “It feels good when you have Enfield beside you. I was not a very popular guy in my college. But the moment I had Royal Enfield with me I came in the spotlight,” said Sahil.

“I just love the sound of the Bullet. It’s so sharp and loud that when you hit the road you get recognised. High points to the front disc brakes, saddle seat and mileage. All my friends bought Bullets after I compelled them to buy one! We rode this bike 15 years ago on the roads of Patna and we were known as Gangs of Bullet,” said Vishal Verma, the owner of three classic Bullets. He added that riding Royal Enfield has its own thrill and sometimes it is good to be the talk of town. The models of Royal Enfield keep changing and now they are catering to the customers with a wide range of models, he said.

“I have always followed my family’s tradition, so for me it’s more than a bike. I have been riding Royal Enfield since my adolescence and now it’s become a necessity,” said Randhir, who has been using Royal Enfield for the past 11 years.
