Patna, April 3: Kiran Devi, 30, found to her detriment the penalty for throwing garbage on the street and in the house of her neighbours.
Indira Nagar resident Kiran was first abused and then attacked with a sword by a group of youths for littering Road Number 2 of the area this afternoon.
She was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital after the attack.
Hospital sources said she was now out of danger and her condition was stable.
Her husband Arvind Kumar has an electronics shop near Patna Junction.
“The problem started when she threw garbage out of her house and it landed in another house in the neighbourhood. A group of men, mostly youngsters, live in that house on rent,” a police officer at the Jakkanpur police station said.
The officer added: “The youths got angry and came out of the house. Then, they started abusing Kiran for throwing garbage in their house. The garbage thrown from the roof of Kiran’s house had allegedly landed in the courtyard of the house in which the youths live. The matter turned worse after Kiran retaliated. A quarrel started.”
The officer added that the matter turned for the worse when one of the men went inside the house and came out with a sword. The man then assaulted Kiran with the weapon.
The officer added: “Fortunately, the injury is not very serious.
Four people involved in the incident were arrested. Kiran has been transferred to PMCH and her situation is said to be stable.
“The men have been arrested and are being questioned. There will be background check on them as well to verify their identities. Attacking someone with a weapon over such a trivial issue is serious,” the officer said.
“The house in which the garbage fell is very close to that of Kiran’s residence. According to the information we have, the men used to stay in the house on rent. It was a major fight that turned worse,” the officer added.
“The two men have been identified as Deepak and Vikas. When the quarrel started, they both got very agitated. They called some friends. All of them started to abuse Kiran and later assaulted her,” said the officer.
He added: “Kiran later came down to the police station to lodge an FIR against Deepak, Vikas and five other men for assaulting her.”
