Patna, March 12: Robotics, coding and web designing were among the various scientific aspects that marked the second day of the annual tech fest at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Technika 2011.
The fest continued today with a series of events — “Genesis” checked the ability of the participants to build their own software, participants displayed various types of robots in “Symbotic”.
Saurav Muraka, a third year engineering student of BIT Patna, had built a robot controlled with a remote that could collect a minimum of 10kg of lunar stimulant in 15 minutes.
Muraka told The Telegraph: “The robot is designed on the principle of Archimedes’ Screw. The challenges include the abrasive characteristics of the lunar stimulant, the weight and size limitations of the lunabot and the ability to control the robot from a remote-controlled centre.”
Muraka said the techies, who are part of the robot mission, have been invited to take part in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) second annual Lunabotics Mining competition. The competition is slated to be held between May 23 and 28 this year at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
Techies of NIT, Bhopal also prepared the model of a highway built with new materials comprising fly ash, resins, and slag from blast furnaces.
S.K. Sinha of civil engineering department, BIT, Patna, said highway construction can get a new shape after these materials are put to use.
