Gaya, Feb. 13: A Buddhist Lama was killed and six others injured when an autorickshaw overturned near tourist bungalow under Bodhgaya police station today.
The deceased Lama was identified as Gendo Chhopel of Kathmandu, Nepal. Another seriously injured Lama was identified as Nawang Sonam also of Kathmandu.
Pappu, the driver of the autorickshaw from village Bhagalpur under Bodhgaya police station also sustained serious injuries. The Lama and the driver both were admitted to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH). At the time of the incident, the Lamas were returning to Nyingma monastery after attending the 12-day Nyingma Puja of Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhists. The Nyingma puja was being organised under the holy Bodhi tree on world heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara campus. Started on February 3, the Nyingma Puja concluded on Sunday.
The injured Lama, Nawang Sonam said he was studying Buddhism in Nitma Buddhist College, Bangalore. He had come to Bodhgaya to attend the Nyingma puja.
