Patna, Oct. 7: Yet another RJD MLA apprehends a threat to her life and has sought police protection for herself and her family members.

Ejya Yadav, RJD MLA from Mohiuddinnagar Assembly seat in Samastipur district, lodged a complaint with the Samastipur town police station today, alleging she received a threat call from a stranger.

The first-time MLA told the police she received a call on her cellphone while returning to Patna from her constituency. The anonymous caller threatened to kill her and her family. He, however, did not explain the reason for his threat.

Samastipur superintendent of police Deepak Ranjan said the MLA informed him over phone this morning about the threat to her life and her family. 'I assured her proper legal action would be taken against the accused,' the SP told The Telegraph over phone.

Another police officer said the MLA's husband, who was in Patna, too received a similar call on his phone. Patna city superintendent of police (central) D. Amarkesh feigned ignorance about the threat. 'I've no information about any threat to the MLA. If a complaint is filed, the police will initiate action,' he said, adding the MLA had been provided security as per norms.

Ejya could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. A close confidant of her's said she was frightened. 'The caller used abusive language and threatened to eliminate her and her family,' he said.

Last month, someone called RJD MLA from Dhaka in East Champaran, Faisal Rahman, and threatened to eliminate him unless he coughed up Rs 20 lakh. The MLA told the East Champaran superintendent of police (SP). East Champaran additional SP Babbam Choudhary said a police complaint was lodged.

Faisal received threat calls for the second time in the past six months. The police had earlier arrested a suspect and beefed up his security.

Rashtriya Lok Samta Party MLA Sudhanshu Shekhar too had received threat calls.

Some days ago, a delegation of RJD leaders, mostly MLAs, had called on director-general of police P.K. Thakur and sought his intervention in providing security to party leaders who faced a threat. Thakur had promised appropriate action.
