Patna: An RJD legislator from the chief minister's home district accused the Assembly Speaker on Wednesday of being biased after the party's adjournment motion was rejected in the House.

The RJD had moved the motion on the law and order situation in the state. Hilsa MLA Shakti Singh Yadav from Nalanda district said: "The opposition moved an adjournment motion on the condition of law and order but the Speaker (Vijay Kumar Choudhary) was not impartial.

"Earlier, Assembly proceedings would be adjourned on small issues but today it was a different scenario. Though there was loud noise inside the Assembly, the Speaker continued the proceedings without getting the House in order, which is against the dignity of the House," Shakti said after coming out of the Assembly.

Parliamentary affairs minister Shravan Kumar slammed the RJD for raising questions on the Speaker. He told The Telegraph: "The Speaker of the House did not find the adjournment motion as per rule and he rejected it. Once the Speaker rejects a motion, the MLAs do not have any right to speak on it. Still, the leader of the Opposition (Tejashwi Prasad Yadav) spoke for over 10 minutes (in the House)."

Shakti, the first-time MLA from a constituency in Nalanda district, the home of chief minister Nitish Kumar, however, stressed that it was duty of the Speaker to listen to the opposition but instead he did not pay any heed to them. "When the BJP was in opposition, the Speaker used to give them opportunity to adjourn the House on trivial matters, but when we raised such an important issue, he did not do so. I can see that he role is not impartial," he said.
