Patna, Sept. 13: The RJD today hit back at chief minister Nitish Kumar for passing the buck on the RJD regime for its alleged failure to protect the state’s interest in an international treaty on Ganga water with Bangladesh.

Nitish on Monday, told reporters after his janata darbar, that had the previous state government (RJD) raised its concern over the India-Bangladesh Ganga water treaty, the state would not have faced water problem.

Today, RJD MP Jagadanand Singh told reporters at the party’s headquarters today: “The RJD had opposed the Indo-Bangla water treaty in December 1996 when the agreement was sealed. People welcomed it but it was the RJD that opposed the deal saying that no such treaty should be signed without taking Bihar into confidence. We had written letters to the Centre and Nitish saying that it would deprive the state of its legitimate share of water.”
