A senior railway reservation clerk and two of his associates were arrested at Ghorasahan railway station on Wednesday morning for their alleged involvement in a reservation ticket racket.
A joint team of railway vigilance and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel nabbed the senior reservation clerk, Subodh Kumar, following a tip-off by a black-marketeer of tickets.
Sources said train services have been disrupted at the Ghorasahan railway station, around 35km north-east of Motihari, because of conversion of metre gauge into broad gauge. However, the computerised reservation counter at the station in the Raxaul-Darbhanga section of East Central Railway remained open for passengers. Sources said Subodh allegedly took advantage of the situation and executed a nationwide racket of reservation tickets.
On Wednesday morning, two of Subodh’s associates, including a tout, Suraj Kumar, were arrested. Sixty reservation tickets worth over Rs 75,000 to various dest-inations from different cities were found on Subodh.
The sources said the tickets were booked from Ghorasahan railway station and were supposed to be used in the next 3-4 months. The seizure included at least 15 Tatkal tickets meant for travelling to Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah and Chennai. The sources added that 50 cancelled tickets in fake names and Rs 78,000 in cash were also seized from Subodh. All three are in the RPF custody for interrogation.
RPF inspector Amit Gunjan and railway vigilance inspector Manoj Kumar raided the railway station based on information received by Mukesh Kumar, a racketeer.
