The Opposition on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the June 14 Rajvanshi Nagar gangrape case in the Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council, while the identity of the seventh accused remained a mystery.
At present, six accused are in police custody in the case on which the administration and police are working for over a week now. Senior police officers told The Telegraph that the girl’s statement in the court on the seventh victim was confusing though investigations were on.
Deputy inspector-general of police (central range) Sunil Kumar said the identity of the seventh accused was confusing.
“The domestic help of the flat has stated that the seventh accused was a boy residing in the same locality and a frequent visitor to the flat. But he was not present in the flat on June 14, the first day of the incident,” a police officer told The Telegraph.
“The girl has said that she was raped again around seven days after June 14. Now the seventh accused, if any, might have been present at the spot on that day. The girl’s statement before the court is perplexing but investigations are on,” a source said.
At the Assembly, the RJD MLAs staged a noisy protest in front of the gate holding placards demanding a CBI probe into the case.
Inside the House, Opposition MLAs trooped to the Well after Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary turned down an adjournment notice by Samrat Choudhary on the issue. For around 15 minutes, they raised slogans against the Nitish government, demanding its dismissal.
Finally, at the initiative of energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, the Speaker agreed to convert the adjournment notice to a call attention notice. Yadav said the government would issue a statement on the episode later.
In Bihar Legislative Council, Opposition leader Ghulam Gaus sought an adjournment motion, seeking a full-fledged debate on the gangrape case. But acting Council chairman Salim Parwez rejected the adjournment motion and asked them (the Opposition) to raise the issue after the Question Hour.
After not being allowed to speak during the Zero Hour, the Opposition members created pandemonium in the House and rushed to the Well.
The commotion continued for 15 minutes with allegations and counter-allegations being hurled at each other by the treasury bench and the Opposition. The members took their seats after repeated request of the acting chairman. Parwez said the matter was being probed and sub-judice.
Speaking on behalf of the government, agriculture minister Narendra Singh told the acting chairman that the government was ready to give a detailed reply on the issue for which the presiding officer should fix a date and time.
