Patna, April 26: Police raided a Jakkanpur house and recovered 14 fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination, printing machines, blueprints and computers in the small hours of Tuesday. Two persons, Pradeep Bose and Ranjit, were arrested.
This morning, the cops raided another house in Bengali Akhara locality near Bakarganj and recovered postal and judicial stamp papers worth about Rs 10 crore.
The sleuths recovered more blueprints, printing machines, postal order stamps and bond papers. Two persons, whose names have not been made public till the filing of this report, have been arrested.
The police said an inter-state gang is involved in supplying currencies and fake stamps worth crores. The gang has a countrywide network.
A senior police officer told The Telegraph most of the order for the fake stamp papers and currency notes came from Calcutta.
Patna City superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande told The Telegraph that the police have found out names of 12 men involved in the racket.
“We have found out clues about 40 more men, including a Bihar-based politician who is a part of the racket. Further investigations are being made in this connection,” the officer said.
The raid this morning was conducted after receiving a tip-off from Pradeep and Ranjit, the top cop said. He added that when the duo were busy printing Rs 2 lakh in Rs 1,000 denomination at the time of their arrest.
“They said they received the order from Calcutta and were completing the same when the raid took place. The police have information that most of the orders for printing of fake currency notes come from the Bengal capital. We have only recovered blueprints for printing notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from the raid. Further investigations will be conducted in this connection,” the officer said.
Police sources said as most of these orders came from Calcutta, there could be a Bangladesh link to the case as well.
“A Bangladesh link cannot be denied in the case. There has been news of different agencies in the country to destabilise our economy,” a police officer said.
On April 11, the city police had unearthed another fake stamp paper racket from Exhibition Road area with the cops arrested two people, Shekhar Priyadarshi and Arjun Singh.
“These two were just middlemen who used to supply fake stamp papers. The raids conducted in the small hours of Tuesday and the second one this morning spell big success for the police. The blank stamp papers sourced from Nepal are supplied to several cities, including Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. The police are interrogating the men and we are expecting more information on the same,” Lande added.
