Patna, Feb. 9: The Bihar Congress today gave a 15-day ultimatum to the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government to implement 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities within the 27 per cent reservation meant for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in central government jobs and admissions to central educational institutions.
The party, which staged a daylong dharna at Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan, under the leadership of state president Mehboob Ali Quaiser, along with hundreds of supporters, said it would gherao the Assembly if the state government fails to notify the implementation of the 4.5 per cent quota for minorities within 15 days.
Quaiser was accompanied by youth Congress president Lalan Kumar and other state leaders like Dasai Choudhary, Vijay Shanker Mishra, Moti Lal Sharma, H.K. Verma, Umakant Singh, Prabhat Kumar Singh and workers.
The Union cabinet on December 22 last year cleared 4.5 per cent sub quota for minorities within the existing 27 per cent quota for OBC in central jobs and admissions to central educational institutions.
“We have given ample time to the state government for implementing the 4.5 per cent quota for minorities on the lines of the central government. We are giving another 15 days to the state government to implement the same, failing which the party workers will gherao the Assembly,” Quaiser said.
