The Patna police suffered a jolt on Wednesday after the state home department returned the proposal to invoke Crime Control Act (CCA) against jailed don-turned-politician Anant Singh.

The proposal has been returned to Patna district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agrawal with queries. The proposal to book Anant Singh, an Independent legislator from Mokama, under the CCA was sent to the home department on September 5 this year. Invoking the CCA would ensure he stays in prison one more year even after bail in all the cases.

A senior police officer said the proposal has been sent to the district magistrate's office, seeking certain clarifications. The decision to invoke CCA against Anant was taken on the basis of a joint report of the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police that his release from jail would create law and order problem. Senior superintendent of police Manu Mahaaraj said they have sent a reply.

The state administration has moved the district and sessions court, Patna, seeking cancellation of bail to Anant in two extortion cases lodged with the SK Puri police station in Patna. The cases were lodged in November last year.

Special public prosecutor (Patna) Gajendra Prasad said Anant has skipped court appearance on several occasions in the past few months. Sources said Anant has got bail in all the cases, except one lodged with the Kotwali police station in the capital.

The MLA, also called Chhote Sarkar by his supporters, was arrested from his official residence on June 24, 2015.
