The state government has ordered a CID investigation into the alleged suicide of a sub-inspector of police in Muzaffarpur after his wife petitioned the cops that the superintendent of police had demanded bribe for a plum posting.
Sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar Gaur, 34, posted at Panapur Katiyar outpost under the jurisdiction of Kanti police station in Muzaffarpur, allegedly committed suicide by shooting with the service revolver of his colleague Mohammad Harun on Sunday.
Additional director-general of police (headquarters) S.K. Singhal said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) would investigate the case. ADG, CID, Vinay Kumar has been asked to constitute a team to probe the incident from all angles.
Singhal clarified that the probe would also cover the allegations levelled by the deceased cop's wife Kalyani Devi against Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Vivek Kumar.
Kalyani, in a petition submitted to Siwan's Darauli police station on Monday, alleged that her husband was under stress because of his frequent transfers.
"The Muzaffarpur SP had demanded Rs 10 lakh from my husband for a posting as station house officer of Gaighat. He paid him Rs 6.5 lakh for the purpose, but he was shifted from Gaighat police station to Panapur in just two days after he assumed the charge of the police station," she alleged in the petition.
"My husband would remain upset after his posting at Panapur as junior sub-inspector. He had shared it with me a few days back," said Kalyani, the mother of three minor children.
She alleged that Gaur, who had joined the department in 2009, was being harassed for belonging to a Scheduled Caste family. "My husband has been murdered under a well-hatched conspiracy. I expect the department, which he had served for about eight years, to deliver justice to the family," she added.
Referring to Gaur's previous posting in Vaishali, Kalyani said he fell victim to a conspiracy. "He was sent to jail because of a conspiracy," she said. Sources in the police headquarters said departmental proceedings were initiated against Gaur in Vaishali for his alleged nexus with liquor mafia.
When The Telegraph contacted Muzaffarpur SP Vivek Kumar he said: "I would not like to comment on the issue as of now."
