Muzaffarpur, Sept. 4: Rajendra Agriculture University (RAU), Pusa, has started a six-day-long training programme for prisoners lodged at Khudiram Bose Central Jail on the scientific method of spawn production and cultivation of oyster mushroom, today.

The state government had prevailed on the jail administration to arrange industrial training for the prisoners and undertrials in a bid to ensure livelihood once they are released. Jail superintendent Vishwanath Prasad said he requested RAU vice-chancellor to impart the training.

RAU scientist Dayaram said the university has selected 25 prisoners for the training, adding that the state government has also planned to provide 50 per cent subsidy to inmates, who intend to take up mushroom cultivation after they are released from prison. Prasad said special loan facility is being planned for prisoners who undergo the training.
