Patna: The Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) on Saturday introduced a mechanism under which passengers can rate and provide feedback on toilet about hygiene of toilets at Patna Junction.

It is called the EmTrendz feedback system for cleanliness of lavatories. Users have to just push a button or, can also scan the QR code provided in front of the toilets and answer questions regarding their upkeep and behaviour of the attendant among other things.

Danapur divisional railway manager Ranjan Prakash Thakur on Saturday formally inaugurated the new system which will help the division to assess cleanliness of the toilets and passenger satisfaction. The Danapur division has tied up with technology firm CodeRower Software Pvt. Ltd. to provide smart and intelligent feedback system to track and monitor the cleanliness of toilets at Patna Junction.

Thakur told The Telegraph after the inauguration: "This new system has been introduced on a pilot project basis for three months at Patna Junction and based on it's feedback we will install the machine at other stations as well, including on trains. We are going for the major change as far cleanliness on station premises are concerned. Based on the feedback received which will be directly monitored by the top official of the railways, immediate action would be taken."

There are three options on the machine which is clean, ok and dirty below the question: "Is this toilet clean". Passengers using the toilet need to press a button out of the three and based on the feedback, further steps would be taken.

ECR has gone for this service because it is fast and easy to collect feed ands it also works offline and is automatically synced when connected to the Internet.

"Instant feedback will allow us to keep the service level high at all times and address issues immediately. At present we have installed eight such machines to cover most of the toilets at Patna Junction. The feedback system will enable the Danapur division to monitor the facilities and sanitation level over here. Talks are on to introduce a similar system even in Rajdhani as far cleanliness are quality of food is concerned," Thakur said.

Once this service is introduced on running trains, passengers need not depend on the complaint register because most of the times, the railway personnel are unwilling to bring it. On the cleanliness front, Danapur division has done one more thing. "Earlier, the Rs 8 crore contract was signed for three years keeping the station premises clean and we have signed the same amount for one year. With this the quality of work will improve. The contractor is bound to adhere with the minimum wages paid to the labourers," Thakur said.
