Patna, June 24: A raid at Beur jail last night revealed the luxurious lives of three prisoners, one of them being the high-profile Pappu Yadav.
Senior police officers said the raid was centred on Pappu, who is known to live in a lavish cell that earlier used to be the Beur jail library.
Patna city superintendent of police (SP) Shivdeep Lande said the raid, which started at around 11.30pm, continued till 2.30am.
“The raid was conducted after a tip-off about Pappu Yadav’s cell, which has four doors instead of the usual single gate. He not only has a television set in the cell but as many as six fans to keep him cool. Purnea goes to bypoll on Saturday and Pappu is considered a strongman there. The raid was conducted on that basis,” the city SP pointed out.
Sources also said there was information that Pappu was trying to disrupt the Purnea bypoll from inside the jail and the police even recovered papers from his cell.
