Purnea, April 6: The Purnea head post office is likely to become the first in the state to sell railway reservation tickets from a special counter without any surcharge within a month.

Three employees of Purnea post office underwent a 10-day training programme at Purnea court station to gain basic knowledge of railway ticket booking. Virendra Mehta, the supervisor, and operators Komal Kumar Bharti and Randhir Kumar were provided training by computer reservation supervisors who were headed by A.K. Sinha, the divisional communication manager. The training was held between March 25 and April 5.

“The supervisor would get Re 1 per ticket and operators would get Rs 3 per ticket as a bonus,” said the supervisor and team leader Virendra Mehta. About the opening of the reservation counter at the post office, Purnea postal superintendent B.C. Singh told The Telegraph that the railways would install the software. He added he had no information when the installation would be complete.

After Purnea, railway reservation tickets are also likely to be sold from 27 other district head post offices such as Patna, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Gaya, Saran, Madhubani, East Champaran, Munger, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, and Darbhanga. Reservation counters at these places would start operations by the end of April or the first week of May.

According to sources, these facilities would be provided at 117 other post offices across the state.

Divisional railway manager Katihar Bhushan Patil told The Telegraph the software is being developed and it would be installed within a month.
