BN Mandal University in Madhepura could see better days ahead as the cabinet has decided to sanction 76 new posts for it.

The decision to sanction new posts was taken at a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

University vice-chancellor Binod Kumar said: “Apart from sanctioning 68 posts of officials and non-teaching employees, the state government has also sanctioned eight statutory posts and this would greatly help streamline the functioning of the university.”

Statutory posts are those that are mentioned in the university statute. Till now, BN Mandal University had four such posts — namely that of vice-chancellor (VC), pro VC, registrar and finance officer. Now four more posts — dean, students’ welfare; coordinator, college development council; controller of examination; and inspector of colleges — would be added to the list.

Established in 1992, the university was finding it tough to function smoothly with just four statutory posts. Lack of other officials was hitting it adversely. The university was thus forced to avail the services of teachers and non-teaching staff from colleges.

“With the sanctioning of new posts we can now hope the university would be able to deliver on the academic and development front more efficiently,” the VC said.

Teaching and non-teaching staff at the university and those at institutions affiliated to it heaped praise on the vice-chancellor for pursuing the matter of creating new posts steadfastly and convincing the government to give its nod for the same.

The VC has achieved what his predecessors failed to, said syndicate member Parmanand Yadav, adding: “With services of officials like dean, students’ welfare and inspectors of colleges among others, one can expect that the functioning of the university would be streamlined. It would benefit both staff and students.”
