Patna, March 16: Bihar cops are accustomed to living under hard conditions and still delivering their best. But for the officers and constables of Patrakar Nagar police station there is an upgrade on the cards.

The police station will soon shift to a new six-storeyed building to house both the official and residential quarters of the cops. The building will have a number of one and three bedroom flats for the officers and constables of the police station.

“We will be shifting to the new premises in a day or two. The fourth, fifth and sixth floors will have residential flats. There are nine flats in all — three are three bedroom ones, and six have one bedroom,” said Dhirender Pandey, the station house officer of Patrakar Nagar police station.

Pandey added: “The larger flats are for the officers, the smaller ones for constables. The number of officers in the police station is high. So the constables with families could also be put up in the larger accommodations.

“There are two staircases in the building — one for the policemen and the other for their families. There is also a provision for a lift but that is yet to be installed,” said another police officer.

He added that stairs were better for policemen. “It keeps us fit,” said the officer.

A source said people coming to the police station or those who have to spend a night behind bars may expect better behaviour from cops who are lodged better and have improved working conditions. Patrakar Nagar will be the first model police station in the state capital.

“There will be separate rooms for both men and women, who come here to lodge complaints. The same rule will be followed for lock-ups and washrooms. There is a state-of-the-art IT room, wireless room, computer room and investigation room. There is also parking space for five vehicles,” said another police officer.

Upendra Kumar, a resident of the area under the jurisdiction of the police station, said: “It is good that they have been given facilities. But they should take care that they behave properly with the people. Also, they should not be too relaxed.”

The station house officer said: “We are very happy. We just need to take care that everything goes according to plan.”
