Patna: Patna police on Monday warned that people taking up the Kiki Challenge will be penalised or arrested.

The Kiki Challenge, inspired by Canadian rapper Drake's song In My Feelings, needs the performer walking outside moving vehicles and dancing without caring about oncoming traffic. The dangerous act has proved fatal leading to many accidents across the world, some of which have been uploaded on social media after thousands of people passionately took up the challenge and landed up in hospitals.

Senior police officers said those undertaking the challenge will be penalised, as it may pose danger to pedestrians and vehicles on the road.

The challenge has endangered people's lives as well as created chaos in the middle of the road after the challenge went viral worldwide and prompted law enforcement agencies across the country to issue warnings to deter youngsters from taking part in the dangerous act.

Though originating in the US, the social media challenge became a public concern and controversy. The participants first record the video of the act, upload it on Internet-based platforms such as WhatsApp or Twitter and then nominate another person to do the same.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj told The Telegraph on Monday: "Police will take strict action against people who create nuisance in the middle of the road by indulging in the Kiki Challenge. They will be penalised for violating law and order and for risking people's lives. The city police will catch such people with the help of CCTV cameras."

The trend went viral on the Internet from June this year with many people from the country, including Bihar, trying out the act on roads. But many were injured because of accidents occurred during dancing on the road mostly in the middle of traffic.

"We will conduct an awareness drive to educate people about the dangers the challenge poses to the life of the participant and that of other commuters," said SSP Maharaaj.
