The All India Police Science Congress will return to the state capital early next year after its inaugural edition way back in 1960.

Bihar police would host the three-day All India Police Science Congress 2012-13 in February. The event is organised under the aegis of Bureau of Police Research and Development, Union home ministry. Delegates at the congress would deliberate upon the use of scientific tools in investigation and new challenges before the investigating agencies of the country.

The inspector-general-cum-director (research) of Bureau of Police Research and Development, Radhakrishnan Kinni, wrote a letter to director-general of police (DGP) Abhayanand on August 27, asking the state’s top cop to depute an officer for preliminary discussions to work out the modalities for the mega event early next year.

Deputy inspector-general (human rights), Bihar, Raveendran Sankaran is the nodal officer for organising the event.

Abhayanand said: “The congress would be held in Patna in February. About 120 delegates of the rank of directors-general, additional directors-general, inspectors-general, deputy inspectors-general and superintendents of police of different state police, central police organisations, intelligence agencies and forensic experts would participate in the discussions.”

The delegates would deliberate upon specific themes concerning issues of policing and inculcating science in policing.

Abhayanand said: “It is a matter of pride for the state police force, which has been chosen for organising national-level events. Such events will boost the morale of the state policemen and provide them an opportunity to interact with their counterparts on the use of science in investigation.”

The state police have also been given the responsibility to host two other events — BN Mullik Memorial Football Championship 2012-13 and the 61st All India Police Athletics Championship. The football tournament will be organised from October 30 to November 8, while the athletics meet will be held from February 18 to 22 next year.
